Volunteer Puppy Raiser

JANET CRESSON

I have Marie-Christiana Jackson (former WAGS trainer) to blame… uh, I mean, thank for introducing me to WAGS.  Maria-Christina was a member at the health club where I was working and she had Mocha.  I was the typical “animal person” cooing and begging to pet her dog.  Maria-Christina invited me to visit a WAGS training session, and I just kept on showing up.  I began volunteering with WAGS in the summer of 1999.  Bella is the eleventh dog I have partnered with.

I still chuckle when I remember an exercise class I was teaching and Shiloh (currently placed as a Service Dog) was quietly resting in his usual spot in the aerobics room.  At one point, the song “Who Let The Dogs Out?” began to play.  In an instant, Shiloh was wide awake and on his feet with a single, tremendous “WOOF!”  The whole room howled with laughter as he stood there looking bewildered, and I…smiled and shook my head.
